As the Father sent me, so I send you.

Writing an essay on the Holy Spirit, and how often the Spirit is forgotten in the life and theology of the Church, I realise that we also forget the Father. The Eucharist, which can seem so much about Christ, about the Son who is the Word made flesh, is a prayer directed to the Father, through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit. Dizzying stuff! The monarchy of the Father, the beauty of hierarchy (in its proper sense). Caught up in the Holy Spirit, our worship in the Mass ascends to the Father through the Son. The elevations during the Eucharist point us towards the Father, through the Son, in the joy of God the Holy Spirit who animates our worship, our life, our love. The breaking of the bread, the pouring of the wine, and the blessing and dismissal see us sent out by Jesus who has given himself to us. Go!

The joy of the resurrection fills the universe!

  1. Thank you for these joyful reflections! I feel our relationship with God is so much enriched when we engage with all three Persons of the Trinity and with the mystery of the Three in One.
